TSM Studio Server 2.3.0.5

This beta release of TSM Studio Server requires TSM Studio 2.3.0.5. Both the new version of  TSM Studio Server and TSM Studio can be found in our beta directory http://www.spiritsoftware.biz/download/beta.

In this release we have added the feature to be able to mail console alerts.

To enable this feature firstly enable SMTP

Goto Configuration->Email\SMTP and enter the SMTP gateway details

Then enable Console Alerts via EMail

Goto Configuration->Alerts->Console Alerts
Click on the Email configuration icon in the toolbar
Check the Enable EMail Alert CheckBox and define the who the different alert levels will go to. The Message can be left blank and will be autofilled with the alert details

NOTE:  Make sure you have already defined what you want to see in the Alert Console or you could end up getting hundreds of EMails.

In the Next Version of  TSM Studio Server we will be adding more specialized alerts such as Scratch Tapes pre Library and Database Utilization. Also we will start adding a few simple reports that can be EMailed

  13. Right Click on the newly added TSM Studio Server, Select TSM Studio Server–>Connect
  14. After Connecting, Select Configuration–>TSM Servers
  15. Choose the Toolbar option to import TSM Server Definitions
  16. Got to Configuration–>Parameter Schedules and add each of the different type and an interval to run, We suggest the following intervals
  • Audit Occupancy ( 1 Day )
  • Database (1 Hour)
  • Occupancy ( 1 Day )
  • Drives ( 15-60 mins )
  • ClientSchedule ( 1 Day )
  • Process ( 15-60 mins )
  • LibraryVolumes ( 15-60 min )
  • Summary ( 1 Day )
  • Session ( 15-60 mins )

TSM Studio gets floating windows

Have you seen the floating windows feature in TSM Studio. Your TSM Studio windows are no longer constrained to stay inside TSM Studio.  At least one window must be docked with TSM Studio but all the rest can float, just double click on the header.

TSM Console Manager and TSM Script Editor will be getting floating windows in the next few weeks

Have you seen the Node Schedule History

The node schedule provides a quick view of your nodes schedule status, completed, failed or missed

To access goto Monitor–>Nodes Schedule History. This data is captured from the EVENTS TSM Table and by default this will only capture data for 7 days. To update for a longer period. Right Click on the TSM Server, Select TSM Servers–>Server Properties, goto the Logging Tab and change the Events Retention period to the required value

Did you know that TSM Studio has a feature to verify that your servers defined in Active Directory are registered to TSM?

  1. Create TSM Studio Server Group with all your TSM Servers in It
  2. Open Configuration–>Client Nodes
  3. Right Click to bring up the Context Menu
  4. Select Commands–>Verify with Active Directory
  5. Enter your Domain

A list of Servers will be displayed from Active Directory and whether or not they are defined to TSM Studio.

Note:  This feature requires that the workstation running TSM Studio is a part of the domain

TSM Studio 2.2.0.0 released

We have now released TSM Studio 2.2.0.0, we are still testing the extra node functionality so  we have not released it in 2.2.0.0.

We have introduced our new SQL Parsing engine which replaces a third party tool we were using which had a number of memory leaks and being generic in nature was quite slow. This new engine also addresses issues when talking with 6.1 and 6.2 Servers which caused errors with the dashboard and displayed empty Dataviews.

One of the new cool features is the ability to float the Dataview windows so they are no longer stuck inside the TSM Studio window. Just double click on the the title tab to make the windows float. There is a slight quirk with the underlying control that at least one window must be docked inside TSM Studio, we are working with the control vendor to correct this.

We have fixed a few annoying bugs, one being a null object reference error that would appear from time to time when the console window was open. And we have enhnaced the Node Backup Schedule diagram to add export options and allow the control of the colors displayed.

We have added a lot of code to support TSM Studio Server and we are hoping to push the first beta out next Monday the 28th of June.

Again to all our clients,  we thank you for all the feature requests being sent in and are working to add them as quickly as possible and we thank you for choosing TSM Studio.

TSM Studio 2.2.0.0

Yes we are busily working on TSM Studio 2.2.0.0 and we have some exciting new client node additions. We are planning to release a beta of our Client Agent, initially just for windows but the unix stuff is under development.  From the Client Nodes Dataview there will be a new command called Node Management which will utilize this agent to get system stats as well as an options to drill down the file system so that you can see which directories and files are taking up your space.

Also in 2.2.0.0 as requested by a number of our users will be the ability to add your own commands to Dataview windows. There will be another menu item on the Dataview called “Command Management” that will allow adding, editing and deleting of commands

TSM Studio Server is still under development and we are aiming for a first beta in about 3 weeks, around the beginning of July. At this stage we are not sure if we will have the centralised reporting feature finished but it will provide historical graphs and alerting via email. TSM Studio Server requires a database backend and we will be supporting both Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL.

We have now added a link to a video demo of TSM Studio on to the front page. Keep an eye out for more instructional videos to appear over the next weeks and months.

TSM Studio 2.1.2.0

We am now working on TSM Studio 2.1.2.0 which we are aiming to release on the 17th of May. This release incorporates a number of bug fixes and the below new features. You can also see all the new features and bug fixes that are in progress by using the Help–>Check for Updates option in TSM Studio

“Node Group Dataview”,  this will displays all the Nodes Groups and provides an easy way to Edit the Group members, additionally we have added the commands to Client Nodes Dataview to add Nodes to Node Group and Collocation Groups

Generate Backup Set Command

Ability to verify that all the computers in your Active Directory are also present in the Client Nodes Dataview

To Help Add Libraries, Shared Libraries and Library Clients to TSM Servers we have enhanced our “One Click – Library, Drive and Path” functionality to make it really simple to define a new Library, Drives  and their Path definitions to a TSM Server. This is currently only supported on windows servers but we are looking at adding the unix platforms shortly.

We are also continuing our TSM Studio Server development and testing in our labs. TSM Studio Server will require an external database and will support both SQL Server (Microsoft ) and MySQL, we hope to have the centralized reporting component finished by the time we release the first beta

We now have a new section on our Website “TSM Studio Documentation” which contains a number of “How To” documents. Well worth th reading to get the most out of your TSM Studio install. We are also planning for webcasts later in the year.

For those of interested in what is coming in the next version of TSM Studio

In version 2.2.0.0 we will add the ability to add commands to Dataviews and we will be adding a lot of charts to present the TSM Information in a more graphical format. Also the Dataview windows will no longer be locked in the Tabbed Interface, the windows will be able to be dragged anywhere around the screen. ( Keep an eye as we may even have this functionality available in 2.1.2.0 )
